Ricardo Yajamin

Ricardo Yajamín Villamarín is a health economist with expertise in economic evaluation, pharmacoeconomics, and health technology assessment (HTA). He holds a Master’s in Economics and Health Economics from the University of Sheffield and has held senior roles across government, academia, and consultancy.

As National Director of Health Economics at Ecuador’s Ministry of Public Health, he contributes to national decision-making on healthcare expenditure, cost-effectiveness, and access. He also serves as President of the Andean Committee for Health Economics, coordinating regional health economics strategies across six countries.

Ricardo has taught health economics at the postgraduate level and authored technical guidance on HTA and budget impact analysis. His applied experience includes the use of economic modelling methods such as Markov models and discrete event simulation.

Combining academic, governmental, and regional leadership perspectives, Ricardo supports students in applying economic principles to complex healthcare systems in both national and international contexts.
