From Pathologist to Medical Education Leader: Dr Amin Alamin’s Journey to Academic Excellence
Dr Amna Fadl, an Assistant Professor in Pathology at Taif University, Saudi Arabia, has spent years shaping the future of medical professionals. But she knew that to truly excel as an educator, she needed to elevate her teaching skills through formal academic training. That led him to pursue a Master’s in Medical Education with Learna | Diploma MSc.
"I wanted a recognised teaching qualification to grow professionally and develop my capacity in evidence-based teaching, assessment, and curriculum planning."
As a full-time faculty member with demanding clinical responsibilities, flexibility was key. The entirely online structure of the MSc in Medical Education was exactly what Dr Amna needed.
"The structure and delivery of the programme were perfect for someone like me. I could study from Saudi Arabia while continuing my job. Everything - study materials, the library, technical and academic support - was available online."
She was also drawn to Learna | Diploma MSc’s reputation for delivering flexible, high-quality learning to working professionals.
"It allowed me to keep progressing in my career without interruption. Learna’s model really respects the reality of working academics."
The course made an immediate impact on her teaching. Dr Amna particularly valued modules on curriculum development and evidence-based teaching.
"It helped me shift from a facilitator to a strategic educator. I now design learner-focused courses, plan more effectively, and apply outcome-based assessments in my department."
The leadership module also stood out as transformative.
"It reshaped how I view my role - I'm now more confident in leading development projects and inspiring others within my faculty."
A Leap in Research and Academic Recognition
Beyond teaching, the MSc sparked significant achievements in academic research and leadership. The research module enabled Dr Amna to confidently complete a dissertation and publish multiple articles in peer-reviewed journals.
"I was able to crystallise my scientific ideas, publish articles, and supervise student research. This programme gave me the tools to become a more productive academic."
Since graduating, her accomplishments include:
Receiving certificates of appreciation from both the College of Dentistry and the General Administration of Education in Saudi Arabia.
Being admitted as a member - and later an assessor - of the Academy of Medical Educators (AoME) in the UK.
Joining AMEE (Association for Medical Education in Europe) as a professional member.
Becoming a peer reviewer for several international medical journals.
Publishing original research in journals such as Current Topics in Medical Chemistry and the Cyprus Journal of Medical Sciences.
"I’m now preparing part of my dissertation for publication in a specialist medical education journal and developing a proposal for my PhD."
Dr Amna encourages others to take the leap.
"If you have a passion for teaching, don’t hesitate. Plan well, manage your time, and dive in with purpose. This course will be a true addition to your career."
An Unforgettable Mentorship Experience
One standout moment for Dr Amna was the support he received from her dissertation supervisor.
"Their feedback was invaluable. They helped me revise my title, refine my methodology, and improve every section of my project. They didn’t just guide the research - they helped me discover myself as an academic."
